Ten hours doesn't sound like much but every year someone comes to me in August looking for a last minute opportunity. And I usually find something very painful for them.
Getting your continuing education shouldn't be a problem this year.
- This spring, advanced training will consist of classes on landscape design, math for gardeners, beneficial insects and sustainable landscape management. As part of this program, participants (working in small groups) will need to complete a landscape design per my requirements. It's that, or I'm giving you a test. Details will be available in the upcoming weeks. [update: available now!]
- I will teach my plant propagation workshop again. You can sign up for it here.
- MKT is putting the finishing touches on the Thursday Evening programs that take place after the RPMGA business meetings. I think the first one for that series is in March.
- Deb is coordinating the Mid-Winter Classic, a February education program that focuses on MGV related stuff. She should have details for that out soon.
- WPT Garden Expo is also in February and you could earn most, if not all, of your continuing education hours over the course of that weekend.
- RBG will offer a variety of things this year including the annual garden symposium and a plethera of other courses. All these will count for continuing education hours.
Even with all of these opportunities you may have difficulty completing your hours. If you are tired of lectures and want to study at home, I have created an online discussion forum where you can earn continuing education hours. ReplyDeleteI talked to a MGV today who is having a difficult time traveling to lectures, etc because of mobility issues. Also doesn't have a computer. She felt like she'd have to quit RPMGA. I advised her there were many ways to fulfill the education requirement - listening to radio gardening programs (especially those featuring Mike Maddox!), video programs. Am I correct? Would reading educational books count? (I also offered to drive her to any education events that I'm attending).

ReplyDeleteIf you find an individual who feels they are struggling to meet the requirements to maintain certification given our current set up, please encourage them to talk to me about alternative methods of program delivery. I know a lecture format isn't everyone's cup of tea and the cost/logistic factors may prevent someone from participating. I can help find ways to meet requirements as long as someone talks to me about it.
