By-Laws changed, Tree ID Hike fun and educational

The RPMGA Advisory Committee hosted a business meeting on Thursday, July 2 at Palmer Park.  The goal of the meeting was to take a vote on proposed changes to the by-laws.  The vote was unanimous in favor of the changes.  All active members will receive a copy of the modified by-laws either by mail or email in the near future.

Following the meeting the attendees were invited to participate in a Tree ID Hike following a route which identifies over 20 trees in the park.  Although the group was small, they had a great time sharing information and educating each other.

The hike and brochure set up by the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee (JSTAC) guided the group on a circular path around the park.  Each tree is identified with a plaque that includes a number, proper and common name and is further identified in a brochure which provides more information.

The Tree ID Hike route and tree identification materials are available to the public through the City of Janesville Parks Department or from JSTAC by sending a request by email to

As a gift to all the attendees the RPMGA Advisory Committee passed out free bur oak seedlings to anyone who wanted to take them.
