Continuing Ed Opportunity - UWW Offers - Common Milkweed: Nature's Smorgasbord

On Tuesday, August 13,  from 5 to 8 p.m., the UW-Whitewater is offering: Common Milkweed: Nature’s Smorgasbord

Many insects use the common milkweed for food. Learn about this plant and the insects you might see if it is part of your garden. While milkweed is easy to grow, it can be aggressive. Learn how to grow and control this plant so it can be an important member of your pollinator garden or home landscape. We’ll start the workshop in the classroom, then move to the prairie to hunt for milkweed and get to know the plant, up close and personal!

This workshop will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., beginning in room 1309 at Hyland Hall. The class will then move to the prairie, located at the northeastern part of the UW-W campus. Please note that the prairie is a 15 minute walk from Hyland Hall, so participants may choose to drive. Note that the prairie is not wheelchair accessible and participants should be prepared to walk in un-mowed, tall grass areas of the prairie. Participants should be prepared for the weather conditions (sunscreen, water bottle, etc.) and should use their discretion on participating in inclement conditions. The workshop will be held rain or shine, and are cancelled only if severe weather warnings are issued. If you need accommodations or have questions about physical access, contact Kari Borne at bornek@uww.edu or 262-472-1003.

The class is being taught by Ann Riley, who's been tagging monarchs for 20 years and is also part of the Bumble Bee Brigade.

This is an approved continuing education program.  MGVs and interns will earn 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) per hour of participation.
