Advanced MGV Training: Landscape Design presentation well received

This year's MGV continuing education program, Advanced MGV Training: Landscape Design, went off beautifully. So well, in fact, that UWEX Horticulture Agent and program creator and instructor, Mike Maddox said the class has "set the bar high" when they presented their designs for a landscape renovation to Edgerton Public Library Executive Director Sherry Machones and two library board members.

Program goals included:

  • Techniques for sustainable and organic landscape management and pest control.
  • The landscape design process and how to create a design using several different methods.
  • How to calculate the amount of supplies needed and generate a budget for their proposal.
  • How to combine all information from this class and past classes (ie. general training) in order to present a landscape design, management plan, and budget to the Edgerton Public Library.
The class was split into teams, each of which put their energies into creating a final plan which was presented to the board and the director on Saturday, June 19. Ms. Machones and the board members showed great enthusiasm in response to the presentations, asking questions and making comments. All presentation materials were donated to Ms. Machones at her request. She will use those materials "taking something from this one and something from that one" to give her own presentation to the full library board for consideration. It is possible, based on her comments, that the presentation materials could serve as a starting point for a full-scale renovation of the library landscape. Stay tuned for further news!
