UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 22
We were fortunate to schedule four dates for Farmer's Markets this year. In past years scheduling hasn't been an issue, but volunteer participation has. We find that same situation exists this year. We need volunteers for the three remaining events.
July 28 - Beloit = Mary Kay Thompson will bring the equipment to the event by 7:30 am for setup and will stay until tear-down at 1:00 pm. It would be good to have two volunteers to assist with the booth during the morning. Ideally one person could work from 7:30 to 10:30, and a second person could work from from 10:30 to 1 pm. The first shift person would help set up, and the second shift person would help tear down. Mary Kay will be responsible for transporting the equipment.
August 11 - Janesville = Ruth Flescher will bring the equipment to the event by 7:30 am for setup. She has another commitment so she will leave after setup and return at 11:30 am and will finish out the day until 1 pm. Mary Thompson will be there for both shifts, but we will need a first shift person willing to work until 11:30 so the booth has 2 volunteers at all times. Ruth or Mary Kay will be responsible for transporting the equipment.
Update September 22 - Janesville = Ruth will bring the equipment to the event by 7:30 am for setup and will stay until tear-down at 1 pm. Mary Kay will not be available. Ruth will need two volunteers. One from 7:30 to 10:30 and a second from 10:30 to 1 pm. The first shift person will help set up, and the second shift person will help tear down. Ruth will be responsible for transporting the equipment.
These are relatively short shifts and you'll receive 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) per hour of participation. We would encourage Interns to take advantage of these opportunities to see what we do and how we do it.
We always provide free vegetable, herb and sometimes (depending upon availability) flower seeds to the public. We also provide Pollinator Project brochures, So You Want to Become a Master Gardener handouts. Depending on the audience we may make Pollinator seed bombs, or pollinator habitats using recycled materials (tin cans and paper straws or hand-rolled tubes). We always wear our master gardener badges.
Farmer's Markets are usually big friendly get-togethers with a wide range of produce and craft items.
Make sure you wear layers so you can dress up or down depending on the weather.
