Renewal - Everything you need to know about membership and dues

Hello, everyone:

Monday, September 30 was the last day you could submit your hours for the 2018-2019 year.

Whew.  It's over!!

The 2018-2019 year has been interesting and exciting what with the new Online Recording System (ORS) our new Horticulture Outreach Specialist, Julie Hill, the changes to state and local association logos, a new children's education program and lots of other exciting things.

For all of you who managed to make your way through all of these things without any major problems, congratulations!!  And as for tomorrow and onward, the upcoming year is wide open and filled with possibilities.

The new recording year begins tomorrow.  Now that you know how to use the ORS, things should flow much more smoothly for you.

I have received questions from a number of association members asking now to renew their memberships and submit their dues.  The answer is in boldface below.

To open the letter click on the link.  This is a downloadable pdf document that you can save to your computer for future reference.

We've settled in to using the Google Groups format for relaying news to members.

We're still using Facebook to get the word out to the public for open classes and other events.

And of course we still have our blog.

Ruth Flescher and I will continue to produce the monthly newsletter.

The group will continue to provide monthly continuing education events. (We are open to suggestion on field trips, hands-on educational events or presentations by experts.)

We will pursue opportunities to partner with other MGV organizations.  A prime example is this Thursday's presentation by Brad Herrick on Jumping Worms.  We are working with the Walworth County Master Gardeners and Rotary Botanical Gardens to present this important informational event.

We're open to suggestions or questions on any garden related issues.

There are other things we will work on as time passes.  An update to our bylaws, educational events about the new structure at the UW-Madison, Division of Extension, how to find approved continuing education opportunities.

We are going into Year 4 of the Pollinator Project.  We will continue to provide continuing education events about pollinators and to give pollinator presentations to the public.

We will continue to work to grow our community outreach for adult and children's programs.

And of course there's you.  One of the most important things you can do is give us your ideas.  Perhaps you're interested in planting herb gardens at each of the senior centers in town, or giving educational talks to kindergarteners about bees, or helping people who have very little planting space learn the value of gardening in containers.  There is a wealth of possibilities for to use to share your expertise with the community.

Soon our new shed will be built and filled with equipment and materials that any of you can use.  If you're giving a presentation to your woman's club on house plants - we have a "grab-N-go" tote filled with everything you'd need.  Or maybe you'd like to teach people how to save seeds.  There's a tote for that.  Or how to start seeds?  Yet another tote.  In early spring we're going to have a new tote set up so any MGV can do a presentation on winter sowing.  We have all the materials you'd need to start a pollinator garden, or a prairie.

We have reserved the lower conference room at Premiere Bank on the first Thursday of each month so we have a great location for events and presentations.  The venue has a kitchen, a soda machine, an elevator, bathrooms and a private exit.  It's quiet, safe and has plenty of parking, and it's free.

Although I've hit most of the high spots, there are infinite possibilities for us to explore.  Here's to the next year of achievement as MGVs!!
