Annual Prairie Seed Harvest, Oct. 5, Rotary Botanical Gardens

Each fall MGVs get together at the prairie remnant at Rotary Botanical Gardens for our annual prairie seed harvest.

This year, on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 pm we will meet on the short stretch of street at the rear entrance to Rotary Botanical Gardens where we can park our cars off the street and enter the prairie on the paths cut through it.  Each year we harvest over 20 varieties of prairie plants and pollinator plants which we then clean, store in clear glass jars and label with their Latin names and common names.  We hand out the seeds at farmer's markets and other events, free to all comers.

It's a fun and exciting venture.  Join us this year and help us identify, harvest, clean and store the seeds.  We will bring all the equipment.  You just need to show up.

The Rotary Gardens Horticulture Center is located at 825 Sharon Road, Janesville.  To reach the harvest site take Palmer Drive to Sharon Road.  Go north-west on Sharon Road.  You will be able to see the Horticulture Center off to the right.  Instead of turning right toward the Horticulture Center, turn left which will take you between the prairie on the left, and the rear fence of the gardens on the right.
