The next topic in the Rotary Botanical Gardens 2012 lecture series is Vertical Gardening on Wednesday, May 16th from 6:30 pm until 8 pm (Parker Education Center, $5 for RBG members, $10 for non-members). I'll be giving the presentation and will be talking about a wide range of vertical opportunities for the home garden. I'll also cover some of the recent developments in vertical gardens, particulary over in Europe. All the photos included in this blog were taken in the Netherlands in mid April this year. Gardening vertically allows us to maximize narrow spaces and provide accessible opportunities in a "narrow format". We'll cover some of the logistics of these systems and you'll see some innovative ideas for gardening vertically with repurposed materials.
Don't forget our Spring Plant Sale on May 12th and 13th (9 am until 4 pm each day). We will be selling a wide range of vegetables (many heirlooms), herbs, perennials, etc. Check out the RBG website (www.rotarybotanicalgardens.org) to see plant lists for all veggies and herbs that will be available. RBG Members can come to our pre-sale on Friday, May 11th (also 9 am until 4 pm) where they'll receive 10% off their purchases. This member discount extends thru the duration of the sale. We still have a few volunteer slots available as well.
We will also be having our volunteer planting workdays (Saturdays) from 8 am until noon on May 19th, May 26th, June 2nd, June 9th and June 16th. Come on in and help plant, enjoy some donuts and the gardens as well. Check out the RBG website for more information on educational offerings, collections information, volunteer opportunities, membership information, etc. 2012 looks to be another great year at the gardens.
Rock Prairie Master Gardener Association members volunteer in cooperation with University of Wisconsin-Extension to provide research-based educational and community service opportunities to its members and the surrounding gardening community.
