May 7 RPMGA Get-together - Plant and Seed Swap

The first week of May: our frost-free date. Time to do major seeding, planting out and dividing those overgrown perennials. What will you do with your excess tomato starts? Houseplants overgrowing their homes? Ten thousand lettuce seeds in that envelope? Bring them down to the RECAP shed near the Community Gardens and trade them for other treasures! We’re hoping you’ll come with any of the following you’re willing to share:

  • Perennial flowers Foliage plants
  • Ground covers
  • Flower seedlings
  • Vegetable seedlings
  • Tubers, bulbs or rhizomes
  • Houseplants
  • Older seeds that are likely still viable
  • Extra seeds you aren’t likely to use this year
Even if you don’t have plants or seeds to bring, come share your experiences and expertise with others. We’ll talk some about open-pollinated vs. heirloom seeds, what will grow successfully if planted in-ground now, average seed life and germination testing, any unusual specimens we get, and anything else that comes up.

Date: Thursday, May 7
Time: 5:30 p.m.

Please label any plants you bring with whatever you know about what it is and how to take care of it. If seeds aren’t in their original packets, the same information would be welcome.

Attendance at this event (even if you don’t bring anything) earns you 1 continuing education unit per hour (1 CEU).

Note: MGVs from Walworth, Green and Jefferson Counties are being invited to join us for this event.
